Richmond Community Garden
At Richmond Primary School we enjoy teaching and learning in beautiful landscaped grounds. We also share a fantastic community garden with the Coal Valley Garden Club and Centacare. Our classes have full use of the garden from seed to plate in one of our two kitchens.
Our Grounds and Facilities.
Our landscaped grounds and buildings are situated in a quiet street in the historic town of Richmond in Tasmania. We boast an impressive school gym/hall, canteen, a multi-purpose room/Music Room, Learning Support Facility including a student kitchen, Literacy and Numeracy Support Room and Library. Our middle and upper Classrooms all have Interactive White Boards, computers and have been recently renovated to provide our students with comfortable and inspiring places to work and learn. Our Early Childhood classrooms have been purpose built and have an early childhood play area which boasts its own stage, landscaped grounds and sandpit. Our Kindergarten and Child Care Centre are in new buildings and have play areas as well as a gardening area with planter boxes. Come and have a look ……..a wonderful place for children to both play and learn!
All classrooms are connected through garden paths and covered walkways. The facilities are modern and cater for all children, including students and parents with mobility issues. The rooms are well resourced and all have been renovated recently. The school has two cooking areas, a music room, art room, separate library situated in the ‘Old School House’, canteen and literacy and numeracy support rooms for support and extension.
Technology is used to support learning programs and assist students with developing their skills using digital pedagogies. Our students and staff have the support of one of our teachers Ben Johnston who works alongside teachers and students in their classrooms to provide guidance and support.
Modern technology means teachers in all classes are able to cast their device to screens for the children to view, a suite of computers and a class set of iPads are available for class borrowing. Digital pedagogies are used to support learning programs and the school uses a number of programs including IXL Maths with students to support their numeracy learning. The school library is also on-line with TALIS automated system.
Physical Education forms an integral part of the learning program through weekly PE classes and student led fitness activities. Our school participates in the Southern Primary Schools Sports Association (SPSSA) carnival in Athletics, Cross Country & Swimming.
Our school also fields team in Hockey, Football and Netball in the annual regional inter-school representative rosters.
